Real Housewives Curse: Renewing Vows on the Show Leads to Divorce, Say Dorit Kemsley & Kyle Richards

Several Real Housewives couples who renewed their vows on the show ultimately ended up getting divorced, contributing to a “reality TV curse.” Kyle Richards warned Dorit Kemsley not to renew her vows on the show after noticing the trend. The Real Housewives of Dallas was the only franchise without any splits until Kary Brittingham announced her divorce in May 2021 at the season 5 reunion.

Several Real Housewives couples who renewed their vows on the show before filing for divorce have contributed to a “reality TV curse,” which has even led to warnings from cast members like Kyle Richards.

The Real Housewives franchise is not exempt from the reality TV curse, as several duos who renewed their vows on their respective show ended up filing for divorce. Kyle Richards cautioned her co-star Dorit Kemsley not to renew her vows on the show, as she knows of couples who did so and eventually got divorced. Dorit agreed that there’s a supposed marriage curse on Housewives, but believes that a strong marriage can stand the test of time.

Jill Zarin of RHONY expressed her concern for Kyle and her husband Mauricio Umansky, stating that she felt shaky in her own marriage after a few years. However, Kyle dismissed Jill’s worry and assured her fans that she and her husband are going strong, almost 25 years into their marriage.

The Real Housewives of Dallas was the only franchise without any splits until RHOSLC made its debut in 2020. Stephanie Hollman attributed their lack of divorce to their commitment to prioritizing their family above all else, reassuring viewers that it’s possible to do the show and keep their personal lives healthy.

Unfortunately, RHOD recently experienced its first post-show split when Kary Brittingham announced her divorce from Eduardo Brittingham at the season 5 reunion. Kary admitted her regret for her behavior during the season, which she tried to mask as she was going through difficult times. She expressed her gratitude towards her girlfriends for pointing out her behavior, which led her to take a closer look at what she was going through.

It seems that the reality TV curse holds some truth to it, but it’s important for couples to prioritize their relationships and not let the fame and drama of the show consume them. While it’s impossible to predict the future of these Real Housewives couples, viewers can only hope that their marriages last beyond the cameras.
