Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar Speak Out Against New Docuseries Starring Daughter Jill Duggar

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have criticized the docuseries Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, which includes their daughter Jill Duggar, for portraying the family in a derogatory and sensationalized way. The series focuses on former followers of the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), including the Duggars, and its controversies. Jill and her husband left the Duggar family’s spinoff show, Counting On, in 2017, citing a lack of control and payment.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have spoken out against the new docuseries “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets” which stars their daughter Jill, calling it “sad” and criticizing how their family is portrayed in a derogatory and sensationalized way.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, parents of 19 children, have voiced their disapproval of the new docuseries “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets”, which features their daughter Jill Duggar. They called the show “sad”, adding that it paints many members of their family in a derogatory way. Jim Bob and Michelle believe the best way to reconcile differences or repair relationships is through love in a private setting, and they love every member of their family.
The series aired on Prime Video on 2nd June, focusing on the Institute in Basic Life Principle (IBLP), a controversial religious organization founded by Bill Gothard. It also delves into the Duggar family’s public scandals. Rising to fame in 2008 with their show “19 Kids and Counting”, the series was cancelled in 2015 after the eldest son Josh Duggar was accused of sexually molesting several girls while a teenager. Jill and her sister Jessa Duggar were among the victims, but they later forgave their brother during an interview with Megyn Kelly.
In the docuseries, Jill’s husband, Derick Dillard, refers to his wife’s TV appearance as “a suicide mission”. Jill voices that she wished the scandal had been handled more privately and expressed regret about the interview.
Jill and Derick left reality TV in 2017 and opened up about their decision to depart from their family’s spinoff series, Counting On, which aired from 2015 to 2020. They claimed they didn’t have as much control over their lives as they needed and that they were taken advantage of. Derick alleged that they were “never paid” for their work on reality TV and that Jim Bob expected the older Duggar kids to sign another deal with his production company, Mad Family Inc, which would be “like forever”. However, the couple has no regrets about leaving the show.
