Meet Charity Lawson, the Newest Bachelorette on Season 20 of The Bachelorette

Charity Lawson, a child and family therapist, has been announced as the next Bachelorette for season 20 after being sent home by Zach Shallcross on The Bachelor. She is looking for someone who is kind, compassionate and has a good sense of humor. Charity becomes the fourth Black Bachelorette, after Rachel Lindsay, Tayshia Adams and Michelle Young.

Charity Lawson, a child and family therapist from Texas, becomes the lead of season 20 of The Bachelorette, looking for someone who is compassionate, kind, and has a good sense of humor.

Charity Lawson, a child and family therapist from Texas, is set to become the next Bachelorette, following her elimination from this season of The Bachelor. Speaking on Good Morning America in March 2023, Charity revealed what she was looking for in a partner: “someone who is extremely kind and treats others well”, as well as someone who can make her laugh. Zach Shallcross eliminated Charity from The Bachelor during hometowns week, but he described it as the toughest decision he had to make on the show.  Weeks later during the Bachelor season 27 special, it was announced that Charity would be the next Bachelorette, where she expressed excitement at the prospect of finding the love of her life.

Charity will be the fourth Black Bachelorette, following Rachel Lindsay, Tayshia Adams, and Michelle Young. Matt James, who was the first Black Bachelor, has been the franchise’s only Black Bachelor to date. In a post on Instagram, Charity wrote that she was still processing the news that she would be the next Bachelorette, and that she was grateful for the opportunity to find love again.

Charity expressed her excitement at the prospect of showing little girls who look like her that being in a position like hers is possible. Her season of The Bachelorette promises to be exciting, as viewers will watch her navigate the ups and downs of finding compatibility with her suitors. Fans of the show will be eagerly awaiting the first episode of the new season, hoping to see whether Charity will find what she’s looking for.
