John Mariucci was born in MN. He spent five season with the Chicago Black Hawks as a defenseman, and after his NHL career, he played in the American Hockey League and the United States Hockey League. After retiring from playing, he took over as coach of the University of Minnesota hockey team, where one of his first acts was passing over Canadian players in favor of homegrown U.S. talent.
