He rose to fame for penning their popular single “Since I Don’t Have You” in 1959, and would sing with the group until his death in October 2017.

His single “Since I Don’t Have You” was used in the 1973 classic film American Graffiti by director George Lucas. He and The Skyliners scored another hit with a cover of “Pennies from Heaven” in 1960 before splitting in 1983.
