Hans Geiger was born on the 30th of September, 1882. He was best known for being a Engineer. Remembered for his development of a radiation measuring device known as the Geiger counter and for his role in the famous GeigerMarsden experiment (which discovered the existence of the nuclei of atoms), he was the 1929 recipient of the prestigious Hughes Medal.
Hans Geiger was born in Potsdam. He earned his doctorate in mathematics and physics from the University of Erlangen in 1906. During the World War II years, he was a member of the secret Uranium Club, a group of German scientists engaged in nuclear weapons research.
