He struggled with depression during the later portion of his life and committed suicide in his San Fernando Valley home in 1990.

David Rappaport was born in England. He graduated with a degree in Psychology from the University of Bristol in 1970. He made his acting debut in the film Turkish Delight three years later. His suicide caused director Terry Gilliam to cancel a planned sequel to the 1981 fantasy film Time Bandits.
