Bachelor in Paradise’s Kat Izzo and John Henry Spurlock recently found love on the reality TV show, ending the season 9 finale by getting engaged. Unbeknownst to Kat, she developed some doubt after meeting John Henry, thinking something good could not come so easily. In Kat’s words, “It’s because of you that I’m standing here right now, happy and incredibly at peace. I am fully and wholeheartedly in love with you.”
When they first met in Mexico, both Kat and John Henry had been involved in different relationships. Kat briefly pursued a relationship with Brayden Bowers and she got some backlash for going on a date with Tanner Courtad. After that happened, Kat began to show interest in John Henry. John Henry was already involved with Olivia Lewis, but in the end, he chose Kat. This led to some controversy on the show, with fans labeling Kat as the “villain of season 9”. Following the conclusion of the show, Kat asked for understanding and kindness from fans as she revealed her vulnerable side. “We are all genuine people,” she wrote on Instagram, “and I apologize if my actions on the show inadvertently hurt others.”
While many Bachelor in Paradise couples get engaged on the show, only a few have gone on to make it last. This includes the first successful couple, Marcus Grodd and Lacy Fadoul, who got engaged on the 2014 season finale and have stayed together since. Of course, not everyone has been supportive of Kat’s choices in relationships. Despite receiving backlash, Kat has stood up for herself, saying, “So, when a girl dates in Paradise, she’s a homie hopper. But when a guy dates, he’s exploring his options? Let me know.” Amid all the criticism, host Jesse Palmer has come to her defense, stating that she has a “huge heart”.
